Arena QMS is a quality system built on a mature cloud PLM, so CAPAs, complaints and training sit next to the bill of materials and change orders. Teams that look for alternatives usually do so because of risk management, regulatory reporting, price visibility or the exit terms. Here's what our evidence shows, which alternatives fit which situation, and when staying is the better call.

## Why teams look for Arena QMS alternatives

**No published price, and services on top.** All QMS plans say "Request Pricing", and Arena hasn't published a price since 2016.[^ar-pricing][^ar-wayback-2016] Implementation, data migration and training are quoted separately, and the Arena Validate package costs extra.[^ar-terms][^ar-pricing] Vendr puts QMS licences at $1,200–2,500 per user a year and implementation at $15,000–50,000.[^ar-vendr] More than 20 G2 reviewers call it expensive.[^ar-aws-g2]

**Uncapped renewals and a paid exit.** The agreement lets Arena raise fees, or add new charges, at each renewal with 30 days' notice and no cap.[^ar-terms] After the contract ends, the one-time data export is subject to professional services fees, and Arena may delete data after 30 days.[^ar-terms]

**No risk or software tooling.** We found no risk register or FMEA object; users link risk management files instead.[^ar-aws-g2] Requirements trace to other requirements and to items, but there's no documented link from requirements to risks or tests.[^ar-changelog] We found no IEC 62304 features.[^ar-issues][^ar-connect]

**No electronic regulatory reporting.** Arena's EU MDR guide offers templates for serious-incident reports and suggests a custom field for UDI impact, but there is no eMDR or EUDAMED submission.[^ar-mdr-wp]

**Interface and search.** Reviewers report a dated interface and a search that needs exact names or part numbers.[^ar-aws-g2] The dedicated supplier quality module is only in Enterprise QMS.[^ar-pricing]

## Which alternative fits your situation

### You need design controls and risk linked in one system: Greenlight Guru

[Greenlight Guru](/reviews/greenlight-guru/) builds software only for medical device companies.[^gg-pricing] Its product tour shows a design control matrix that links user needs, inputs, outputs, verification and validation, next to a risk matrix of hazards, hazardous situations and harms.[^gg-tour] Trace graphs flag missing links across design, risk and tests.[^gg-pd] Each release ships an IQ protocol and completed OQ and PQ reports at no extra cost.[^gg-pricing] You can export quality records in standard formats without paying for services, and you have 90 days after the contract ends to request an export.[^gg-pricing][^gg-msa] eQMS packages start at $12,000 a year, with implementation quoted separately; Vendr reports a median of $43,989.[^gg-pricing][^gg-vendr] Renewal increases are uncapped here too.[^gg-msa] Items and multi-level BOMs have approval routing, but users report it is weak as a PLM for BOMs and change requests, which is where Arena is strongest.[^gg-tour][^gg-reddit-worth][^gg-reddit-cost]

### You want requirements, risk, tests and production records in one database: Orcanos

[Orcanos](/reviews/orcanos/) keeps its design-control half (ALM) and its QMS half in one data model, so there's no integration to maintain.[^or-home] Its help center documents risk items linked to mitigating requirements and verification tests, and traceability reports that expose missing tests.[^or-fmea][^or-trace] For hardware it documents engineering change orders, DMR and DHF records and electronic device history records.[^or-eco][^or-dmr][^or-edhr] All plans list a full validation package and basic onboarding.[^or-pricing] Prices aren't published; the last public list, from 2020 and 2021, showed ALM and QMS together at $1,250 a month for up to 10 users.[^or-archive2021] We found no free trial, and supplier, audit and nonconformance workflows appear only on marketing pages.[^or-home][^or-supplier][^or-audit][^or-nc]

### You need eMDR filing and a renewal cap: ETQ Reliance

[ETQ Reliance](/reviews/etq-reliance/), now sold by Octave, adds complaint handling with an electronic FDA medical device report form in its life sciences set, and Octave says it integrates with a gateway to file eMDRs.[^etq-lsc] Its supply chain set covers supplier rating, receiving inspection, PPAP and supplier corrective actions, and suppliers can log in as external users.[^etq-apps][^etq-nxg] Fees can rise by up to 7% a year, or by a different amount if Octave quotes new pricing at least 30 days before renewal.[^etq-msa] You can ask for your data in a standard format at no charge within 30 days of the contract ending.[^etq-msa] There's no design-controls app, no published price, no published hosting region and no free trial.[^etq-avanos][^etq-reliance][^etq-msa-old][^etq-capterra-profile]

### You want one published price with setup and validation included: SimplerQMS

[SimplerQMS](/reviews/simplerqms/) starts at $17,500 a year for up to 15 users. That includes implementation, IQ/OQ/PQ validation, data migration and live training.[^sq-pricing] Its terms add a fixed 5% to all prices every 1 January, so renewal increases are known in advance.[^sq-terms] When a subscription ends, it exports all content as Excel metadata plus the documents, and the pricing FAQ says this costs nothing extra.[^sq-terms][^sq-pricing] Design controls and risk are document collections rather than linked records, so it doesn't close Arena's risk gap.[^sq-design][^sq-risk]

## When to stay with Arena QMS

Arena's strengths are real for hardware teams, and switching takes work:

- **Quality tied to the product record.** CAPAs, complaints and training link to the same parts and change orders that engineering uses.[^ar-quality] Suppliers get their own licences and role-based access to the product record.[^ar-supply]
- **Open data during the term.** A public REST API with an OpenAPI spec, scheduled CSV extracts, and Jira and GitHub connectors.[^ar-openapi][^ar-dataextract][^ar-connect]
- **Validation.** Arena Validate provides a user requirements specification, trace matrix, IQ and OQ protocols and PQ templates for each release; over 100 device customers use it.[^ar-validate]
- **EU hosting.** Arena Europe runs on AWS in Europe, covered by PTC's public data processing addendum and sub-processor list.[^ar-security-platform][^ar-ptc-dpa][^ar-ptc-sub]
- **Try before you buy.** You can request a free 10-day trial without a credit card.[^ar-pricing][^ar-trial]
- **Ratings.** "Arena PLM & QMS" has 4.2/5 on G2 from 465 reviews, with 8.1 for ease of use and 8.5 for support (Sep 2026), though PLM and QMS share one listing.[^ar-g2]

If you stay, ask for a renewal cap in the quote, and plan your own export through DataExtract and the API before the contract ends.[^ar-terms][^ar-dataextract]
