Part of Best QMS Software (https://bestqmssoftware.com/). Method: https://bestqmssoftware.com/how-we-rank/

Matrix Req is a design-control and traceability tool that many software device teams pick for its developer-tool links. The reasons people compare it with other systems are mostly about the second product a full QMS needs, the price trend, hosting details and the learning curve. Here's what our evidence shows, which alternatives fit which situation, and when Matrix Req remains the better pick.

## Why teams look for Matrix Requirements alternatives

**Two products for a full QMS.** Supplier, audit and nonconformance workflows, and the documented complaint workflow, are in Matrix Quality, a Salesforce-based eQMS that Matrix One acquired in January 2026.[^mx-simploud-pr][^mx-quality] Matrix One says connectors between the two are deployed, but they are two systems on different platforms.[^mx-quality]

**Rising prices.** Matrix Req Team Plus plus ten Matrix Quality licences comes to about $21.8k a year at published prices (September 2026).[^mx-list2026][^mx-quality] Matrix Req's list prices rose by about 31–33% between September 2023 and 2026.[^mx-list2023][^mx-req-prices] Matrix Quality's minimum annual deal went from $7,500 to $10,000 in early 2026.[^mx-simploud-2025][^mx-simploud-calc] The terms let Matrix One raise prices during a contract after notice, with no cap.[^mx-terms]

**Hosting and access.** The subprocessor list shows AWS and OVH hosting that depends on customer location, including European sites, but the hosting article names no region, and we found no public DPA.[^mx-legal][^mx-hosting] Matrix Quality's data region isn't documented.[^mx-quality] Single sign-on for Matrix Req is only on Enterprise Plus, from €2,600 a month.[^mx-req-prices]

**Learning curve.** Five recent G2 reviewers describe a steep learning curve and a dated or off-putting interface. Reviewers also say document templates take upfront effort to set up.[^mx-g2-req] Matrix Req only imports Word files; it doesn't edit them.[^mx-word-import]

**Post-market gaps.** We found no documented UDI, post-market surveillance or vigilance-reporting workflow in either help center.[^mx-docs-home][^mx-academy]

## Which alternative fits your situation

### You want design controls and quality in one database: Orcanos

In [Orcanos](/reviews/orcanos/), requirements, risk, tests, CAPAs and quality records share one database, so there's no integration between two products to maintain.[^or-home] The help center documents traceability reports that expose missing tests, and flags on linked items when something changes.[^or-trace][^or-suspicious] Software teams get IEC 62304 compliance checks that take a software safety class.[^or-insights] SOPs stay as Word or Excel files you check out and edit in Office.[^or-dmsfaq] Single sign-on is available from the Essentials plan.[^or-sso][^or-pricing] Orcanos doesn't publish current prices, Jira connects only through Zapier, and supplier and audit features appear only on marketing pages.[^or-pricing][^or-jira][^or-supplier][^or-audit]

### Your engineers live in Jira and Git: Ketryx

[Ketryx](/reviews/ketryx/) syncs requirements, software items, tests and risks from Jira, Git and test tools and generates the design history file from them.[^kx-dhf] The platform itself is certified to IEC 62304, ISO 13485 and ISO 14971.[^kx-certs] Single sign-on works with Okta or any OpenID Connect provider, and the DPA is public.[^kx-sso][^kx-dpa] You can start a 30-day trial without a credit card.[^kx-signup] Paid plans are contact-sales, and we found no documented supplier, internal audit or production record workflows, so you would still need an eQMS.[^kx-pricing][^kx-llms]

### You want one MedTech system for design and quality: Greenlight Guru

[Greenlight Guru](/reviews/greenlight-guru/) puts document control, training, suppliers, audits, CAPA and complaints in the same system as requirements, design controls and ISO 14971 risk.[^gg-pricing] It offers IEC 62304-aligned release management with Jira and GitHub sync.[^gg-ultralight][^gg-samd] Teams can co-author controlled documents in Google Docs or Microsoft Office for the web.[^gg-qms] Its 2022 architecture overview lists Germany among the hosting regions set in the order form, so confirm it in writing.[^gg-arch] The entry price is $12,000 a year, but Vendr reports a median of $43,989, and renewal increases have no cap.[^gg-pricing][^gg-vendr][^gg-msa]

### You want documented EU hosting and an easier interface: Qualio

[Qualio](/reviews/qualio/)'s subprocessor list names AWS in Dublin as the web-application host, and its DPA is public.[^q-subprocessors][^q-dpa] G2 reviewers rate its ease of use 9.0/10 (663 ratings, Sep 2026).[^q-g2] Its design controls support up to three requirement levels with verification and validation test cases and ISO 14971 risk, and Jira is included.[^q-dc][^q-pricing] For a software team it is weaker: we found no IEC 62304-specific features such as safety classes or SOUP lists, and GitHub, GitLab and Azure DevOps need the paid Integration Hub.[^q-dc][^q-pricing] Prices aren't published, and every plan carries an implementation fee.[^q-pricing]

### You want a flat price for an early-stage team: Formwork

[Formwork](/reviews/formwork/) charges 499 € a month plus VAT for unlimited users.[^fw-pricing] Its QMS and technical documentation sections are one product.[^fw-qms][^fw-techdoc] Each product records its IEC 62304 safety class, and requirements link to risk controls and tests.[^fw-techdoc][^fw-swr] It is hosted in France with backups in Germany.[^fw-landing][^fw-data-safety] The gaps are real for a Matrix user: no Jira or Git integration, by design, no SAML single sign-on, and no ISO 27001 certification.[^fw-landing][^fw-signup][^fw-audits] Complaints are logged as incidents with no documented investigation step.[^fw-incidents] It has 2 reviews on G2, too few for a rating.[^fw-g2]

## When to stay with Matrix Requirements

Matrix Req is hard to beat on its home ground:

- **Traceability.** Traceability rules can be required or optional per category, and reports show broken or outdated links.[^mx-trace][^mx-tracemgmt]
- **Developer tools.** Issues link to Jira, GitHub, GitLab and Azure DevOps.[^mx-git]
- **IEC 62304 templates.** The SxMD package covers IEC 62304, IEC 62366, ISO 13485, ISO 14971 and 21 CFR 820 on Company and Enterprise plans.[^mx-sxmd]
- **Published prices and a trial.** Both products publish per-user prices, and you can start a Matrix Req trial yourself with all features and no credit card.[^mx-req-prices][^mx-quality][^mx-trial]
- **Validation.** Matrix Req ships a validation project with pre-written requirements, risks, test cases, and a plan and report.[^mx-tools]
- **Support.** G2 reviewers rate Matrix Req's quality of support 9.2/10 (Sep 2026).[^mx-g2-req]

If the design-control side is all you need, Company Plus alone lists SOPs, CAPA and training, without Matrix Quality.[^mx-req-prices]

Why people switch from Matrix Requirements (Matrix One): A full QMS takes two products from Matrix One: Matrix Req, plus Matrix Quality, a Salesforce-based eQMS acquired in 2026 and priced separately. Review: https://bestqmssoftware.com/reviews/matrix-requirements/
