Pick TrackWise Digital if you want complaint handling with a reportability decision tree and eMDR, and an ISO 14971 risk file linked to nonconformances and CAPAs, on a Salesforce platform with a current SOC 2 Type 2 report. Pick ETQ Reliance if you want to build your own workflows from configurable apps across many sites, with renewals for the same term as your first contract and an exit export at no charge.
Both are long-established enterprise QMS used by large device and pharma manufacturers, and both are strongest after a product is on the market. TrackWise has been sold since at least 2001. Honeywell bought its maker, Sparta Systems, in February 2021, and the cloud version, TrackWise Digital, is built on Salesforce. ETQ was founded in 1992 and has been sold as Octave Reliance since Hexagon spun off Octave in May 2026. It is built from more than 40 configurable applications.
Who each is built for
TrackWise Digital fits larger device, diagnostics and combined device-and-pharma companies. SGS rolled it out across 17 sites, and much of the product language is pharma GMP: deviations, out-of-specification results and batch release. For smaller companies, Honeywell added QuickTrack in March 2026, a preconfigured package with implementation included.
Reliance serves many industries, from automotive and aerospace to pharma and medical devices. Trane runs it for more than 9,000 users across 52 sites, and device customers include Avanos and Owen Mumford. Its GxP apps cover deviations and OOS lab investigations. Reliance Go, launched in December 2025 for smaller teams, leaves out the life sciences set with complaints and eMDR.
Price and contract terms
Neither vendor publishes prices. Honeywell’s pricing page says cost depends on user licences, processes and implementation. Its own AppExchange listing shows $200 per user per month as the lowest starting price, last updated in March 2022. For 10 users that is about $24,000 a year, before implementation. It is a vendor figure with no independent signal next to it, so we don’t estimate from it. Octave says Reliance pricing is “subscription-based (by users, modules or sites)”, and ETQ’s old pages priced it by concurrent users and application sets. We found no dated price paid by a buyer for either.
Implementation is quoted per project for TrackWise Digital and included in QuickTrack. Reliance buyers choose a self-service path or paid implementations, and validation consulting is a paid service.
The renewal terms differ more than the prices. TrackWise Digital’s fees are invoiced annually in advance and can’t be cancelled. After the first term, the contract renews for 36 months unless the order form says otherwise, and you must give notice 45 days before the term ends. The agreement has no clause on renewal prices: no right to raise them and no cap. Reliance’s agreement is also non-cancellable and renews for the same term. Fees can rise by up to 7% a year, or by a different amount if Octave quotes new pricing at least 30 days before renewal. Three Reliance reviewers report that things once included became paid.
On exit, TrackWise Digital returns data only if you ask within 30 days: CSV files from Salesforce, and files from AWS-hosted modules by secure transfer. The terms don’t say what format documents come back in. Reliance gives you your data in an industry-standard format at no charge within 30 days, and its offboarding policy exports the full database where the product supports it.
Complaints and eMDR
This is where both are strong. TrackWise’s complaints module covers intake, investigation, risk assessment, reportability review, CAPA and trending. A decision tree identifies where an adverse event must be reported and sets the deadline, and the datasheet names FDA eMDR submission. EU MIR reporting appears only on a marketing page.
Reliance’s life sciences set adds complaint handling with an electronic form for FDA medical device reports, and Octave says it integrates with an electronic submission gateway. We found no EU vigilance, UDI or post-market surveillance features.
CAPA, audits and suppliers
TrackWise Digital’s CAPA has automated routing, notification, escalation and approval, and nonconformances and deviations carry investigations and trending. Suppliers can answer audit findings in a portal. Reliance has CAPA, nonconformance, customer feedback and a general quality-events app, and an event can be investigated without opening a CAPA. Suppliers can log in as external users to answer audits and SCARs.
Design controls and risk
Neither has a design controls module. In TrackWise Digital we found no design controls, requirements traceability, IEC 62304 features, or Jira or Git integration; only the risk module touches design work. Reliance has no design-controls app either, and Avanos built its own design history file app on the platform. We found no IEC 62304 features or Jira and Git integrations in Reliance.
On risk, TrackWise is ahead. Its risk module keeps a risk file per product with hazard analysis, FMEA and a residual-risk matrix, and nonconformances and CAPAs link to individual risks. Honeywell says it supports ISO 14971:2019. Reliance’s new product introduction set has APQP and an FMEA with a hazard analysis, but no ISO 14971 risk management file.
TrackWise Digital is built on Salesforce, and integrations use Salesforce’s APIs. Some modules run on AWS or other providers. Reliance’s workflows and forms are changed with visual tools, or a scripting language for advanced logic, and its REST API maps data to CSV, XML or JSON, though the documentation isn’t public.
Hosting, security and validation
Sparta Systems has a SOC 2 Type 2 report for its SaaS services, covering September 2024 to August 2025. We found no ISO 27001 certificate. Octave says Reliance complies with ISO 27001, but the archived certificate expired on 14 May 2026 and we found no renewal.
Neither publishes a hosting region. TrackWise Digital’s data processing addendum is only available on request, and the service agreement allows transfers to the US under standard contractual clauses. Reliance’s EU addendum is public and lets Octave process data wherever it or its subcontractors have facilities.
Both cover Part 11. TrackWise Digital’s e-signatures and audit trails follow Part 11, and its preconfigured processes are described as pre-validated, with validation information in the customer portal. Reliance has a Part 11 and Annex 11 app and a Validation Execution Package.
What users say and go-live
Both have review-drive caps in our scores. TrackWise Digital has 15 Capterra reviews, 4.3/5 overall, with 3.9 for ease of use and 4.1 for customer service. Capterra labels 14 of them as incentivized, and 9 arrived within nine days in June 2018. Reliance rates 4.3/5 on G2 from 627 reviews, but every one of a 70-review sample is labelled as invited and incentivized. Reliance reviewers are split on usability, and several call it expensive.
Vendor case studies put TrackWise Digital at three months for SGS’s first site and six months for a 50-person device company. Octave says Reliance takes “a few weeks for a basic system to a few months for multi-site rollouts”.
